Robert Cook, CIO

Robert Douglas Cook became Chief Information Officer at the University of Toronto on May 12, 2008. Bob joined the university in 1990 as head of the Technology for Enhancing Learning Centre at the former Faculty of Education. From 1996 to 2004 he was co-director (technology) for the Education Commons at OISE and was one of the architects of its creation. He became OISE’s chief information officer in 2004. While at the university, he has been primarily associated with initiatives that harness information and communications technology to the academic agenda.

Bob is a U of T alumnus, with a BA in English Language and Literature from University College. He also holds a Master of Arts in instructional design & technology from the University of Iowa’s College of Education, and a diploma in media resources from B.C.’s Capilano College. Bob has spent his career in the education sector. He was a lab supervisor, instructor and program coordinator at Capilano College from 1976 to 1985 and was coordinator and teaching master in the courseware design and production program at Sheridan College from 1985 to 1990.
