Who wants to talk Drupal at a TKF panel discussion?

Hey all,

At this year's TKF I'm going to take part in a "birds of a feather" panel discussion on a few different CMS options that are in use on campus. Yvonne Heath will be talking about Active/IronPoint CMS 9.1, I'll be talking about WordPress 3 and it will be great if one of you can talk about Drupal 7.

The format will consist of a few tables, each with a machine running a different CMS. People will be able to demo each CMS and ask whatever questions they have. We won't be going through formal presentations over and over all day long, as that would be painfully boring.

Expect to field questions on everything from the initial installation of Drupal, custom theme and/or module development and also the user experience of managing and contributing content to a Drupal site. There will be a very broad audience attending TKF this year and it's not just the developers who will have a hand in expanding Drupal (and WordPress) usage on campus. Empathizing with and addressing the concerns of the all the members in attendance (both the technically-minded as well as the novice users) will greatly help in more offices, departments and faculties seeing it as a viable option.

So ... who wants to demo Drupal for a day and sing its praises?

Drupal @ TKF

I'm interested in helping out with this.

Hey Greg, thanks for tagging

Hey Greg, thanks for tagging in.

Here's the latest news: apparently there will be *no* BoFs this year and only standard presentations. Moving on with that in mind Yvonne and I are thinking this is how we can format a presentation.

Yvonne: 10 minutes talking about CMS benefits in general
Ted: 10 minutes on the LAMP service
Mike: 10 minutes on what people are doing with WordPress 3
Greg: 10 minutes on what people are doing with Drupal 7
Q&A: 10 minutes and then we're done

Sound good?

Next-gen all the way

Ohhh, next-gen CMSs! Sounds good. I'd love to attend this talk!

Potentially different presentation format

I'm new here, so perhaps this isn't the sort of thing they go for at TKF, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyhow:

I recently heard about a format called Pecha Kucha. It was initially created by an architecture/design firm, billed as a way to avoid "death by powerpoint". It involves a presentation based around 20 slides, each preset to advance every 20 seconds (20x20 = 6m 40s). It keeps things moving and apparently makesfor an interesting watch!

Anyhow, could be an interesting, quirky format to present in. I've been trying to find a reason to use it myself, and while I don't think I'm knowledgeable enough to present, I'd love to watch one :)
