Web Analytics -- Request for Input
As part of a larger group that is reviewing the U of T's Web presence, a few of us are looking into Web analytics tools.
While we all seem to have some knowledge of Web analytics, think Google Analytics, we'd like to go deeper into:
- what we will measure and report
- who will investigate the details
- what insights may be derived
- how should insights be shared
- what actions may we reasonably expect to take based on the evidence
- what resource investment is required to properly utilise Web analytics
- will we able to demonstrate utility
I like the primer on Wikipedia
Anyone have some insight into good tools, and more importantly, actions taken as a result of stats that led to the demonstrable improvement of a site?
Input desired. Reward points granted.

+1 to GA
I'm currently using Google Analytics to gather useful data of my blog, and is included in my freelance hosting services, and I really love it. Has very useful information regarding most of topics, since a general overview including has Visits, demographics, technology, mobile and recently introduced social.
Which indicators I believe are worth to measure?
-Visits: Pageviews, Pages/Visit, Avg. Time on Site, Bounce Rate
-Demographics: Location and Language
-Technology: Browser & OS, Network
-Mobile: Devices
-Traffic Sources
More relevant?
-Avg. Time on Site, Bounce Rate
-Technology: Browser & OS
-Mobile: Devices
-Traffic Sources
who will investigate the details?
That's an excellent question. I believe the responsible to dig into each indicator is the service owner or operational responsible, which will be looking in a way/strategy to increase the Avg time on site or decrease the bounce rate for instance, or using the technology indicator to design a platform considering most popular browsers by their users.
will we able to demonstrate utility? Absolutely
what resource investment is required to properly utilise Web analytics? Configuration is quite simple, but aside of this I'd to highlight SEO training as a core element to get a well use of gathered data.
Hope it helps.

Comments question
Approximately a month ago I've posted a comment in this note and it's not displayed so far, so I'm wondering if something's wrong with it... I believe this isn't the way to encourage users to make dialog in the site.
