Where has Scholars Portal Search Gone?

Looking for journal articles? As of August 5, the Article Search box on the library homepage and Portal library resources pages is powered by Summon, a massive, multi-disciplinary unified search engine. The Summon engine replaces the Scholars Portal Search interface.

New Interactive Campus Map

This mobile-friendly, Google-based, layered map integrates and replaces the multiple versions of online campus maps that each featured different aspects and services at the University of Toronto's St. George campus. As the project evolves, the map will expand to include the Mississauga and Scarborough campuses.

The map helps members of the U of T community, particularly people who are new to the campus, navigate the campus using meaningful search words, such as "bookstore" and "registrar". This means you will no longer have to know the names of buildings in order to find things on campus.

Tri-Campus Wireless Upgrade

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Information + Technology Services is pleased to announce a major upgrade to the University's tri-campus wireless infrastructure.

Over the past year, I+TS has been in the process of replacing the University’s legacy wireless infrastructure with a new enterprise-class solution capable of supporting the latest wireless standards and devices. Much of this initial upgrade activity has now been completed and we are making preparations to, over the next couple of years, expand the wireless network to provide complete coverage across all three campuses.

Time to Rewire U of T

Time to Rewire U of T:
Tri-campus Wireless and Core Network Capacity and Reliability Enhancement Projects Approved

Over the last decade, the University’s data network has become a key facilitator of the research, education and business activities of the University. The widespread adoption and use of wireless devices on campus has significantly increased expectations of the University’s wireless network. Our students’ increasing reliance on laptops, PDAs and smart phones has resulted in a steady increase in the demand for reliable and widespread wireless coverage.

Educause

I would like to draw your attention to the leadership column just published in the latest issue of EDUCAUSE Review, co-authored by David Naylor and Bob Cook. In particular, direct your attention to the president's very clear statement of insights, expectations and guidance on how IT services at the University might best be delivered.
